Seal Cove Auto Musuem Facts

Founded:
The Seal Cove Auto Museum was founded when Richard Paine formed a non-profit organization by the same name. The museum was to subsist off of Paine's own private automobile collection, however he only contributed a few cars to the collection at the time. The rest of his private collection was granted to the organization in a Trust after his death.

Mission:
To tell the story of innovation and ingenuity in New England and America through the early development of the automobile.

Collections:
The Seal Cove Auto Museum collection contains 100 automobiles and 30 motorbikes. Almost all of these models are from what is known as the Brass Era, which constitutes the period in automotive history from 1895 to 1917. Many of the vehicles have been restored to the best condition possible, though some have been left in their previous conditions.

In addition to the cars and motorcycles the museum also houses an extensive array of memorabilia, photographs, and other automotive-related paraphernalia.

Facilities:
The Seal Cove Auto Museum is in the town of Seal Cove, on Mt. Desert Island. The collection is housed in a large blue building across from Seal Cove Pond, on Tremont Road.
